Twitter has its own unique branding and a nice way of social interaction. It’s the ultimate social network when it comes to viral content. Twitter had been home to the ever popular “hash tag” which has become a worldwide trend when it comes to posting catchy and interesting posts. The addition of celebrity users has also made Twitter a handy form of entertainment.   Twitter also has massive amounts of users which makes it a target for social media marketing.

If you want to make social media marketing work with Twitter, here are a few things that you should know:

 Numbers Game

In Twitter, you need to have a lot of followers. Not just enough but a whole lot! Twitter followers are important if you want to make social media marketing work. Starting off a new account might be a tough task at first but with the right strategy you can gain a lot of followers in the course of a few days. The followers you have can be your next customers or they could be the ones to spread your name around the internet.

 Be Creative

Twitter is all about creativity and trend. Even the simplest things could be given a trendy hash tag. These range from great functions to really small trends. Remember these times #Superbowl, # Sochi2014, #Xmasgift, #birthdaygift, #sydneysiege, #marketing  #SEO, and the list can go on and on. These catchy terms and phrases can be used for marketing as well. As a matter of fact, even local brands have embraced this method of marketing which uses hash-tags to captivate the attention of customers. Using this method in social media marketing makes it easier to spread the word about your brand since users can find you through hash tags.

 High Quality Content

It’s mandatory to have quality content in each of your tweets. Well written content gets re tweeted most often. One thing that you need to keep in mind when creating content is that it should be polite. You would not want to be bashed with comments saying they were offended with your tweet or that they found it inappropriate. Other than nasty comments you may end up having your account suspended. If you’re planning on placing a link on your tweets to one of your blogs, don’t just copy and paste the headlines. Instead, put in a little extra effort of making a creative summary of the whole blog. It’s a lot better and grabs more attention. Using a short form of your website address helps, you can use use URL shorteners. Bitly.om is a good website to use.

Use Images And Videos

Studies have shown that tweets with images and videos have higher re-tweet  (RT) rates than simple text alone. As a matter of fact, tweets with pictures have higher re tweet rates compared to videos. Be sure to make each image you tweet worth re tweeting. Compelling images are kind of a re tweet magnet so it’s wise to invest in well rendered images before you make your next tweet. Here is an example found on twitter:

      Nice post Siphosith!

And you’re definitely right about the tremendous marketing opportunities with social media in general and twitter in particular.

      Hi Siphosith,

Twitter sure has made many changes. I especially like how we can add photos. And yes..the more creative we can get, even sharing a tweet the better.

It is a fabulous platform to be on especially if one knows how to market well. No spamming as usual…lol.

Thanks for these tips. I don’t use Twitter that much but love to stay connected to their latest trends and all the how-to’s.

I agree with your points about being creative, creating high quality content and using pics and videos. I disagree with your point about numbers. It’s more about quality than quantity. Of course, if you have a ton of quality followers, it’s a good thing :).

Great advice, Siphosith I auto posted to Twitter from my blog and tweet buttons elsewhere without much thought. It wasn’t until I started using hashtags, and added my own content rather than just titles, that my following started to grow.

I know the power of images on other networks so and must take advantage of them more on Twitter.

Thank you so much, Siphosith, for sharing you tips and suggestions.

I found that when I started with Twitter I Retweeted a couple of the tweets of the people I started to follow and I got lots more followers that way.

Yes, you are so right, Twitter has unlimited possibilities.

I appreciate that you are sharing your knowledge.
      Cheers,

      Hi Siphosith,

You did a great job with this post. I used to daily market on Twitter a few years ago; however, I have not done marketing on any social media sites in a while. I do post on few sites weekly just to keep my name in front of folks. And I do use hashtags 🙂

I do use Twitter for marketing my blog, but I only use it occasionally.

Tweeting pictures sounds great. Is it easy?

By the way, in addition to creative, good content, I think just following a lot of people may help. I have come across some people on Twitter that have over 10K followers, but also follow about just as many! I’m not sure if that strategy is truly valid, but it does seem to work from some.

I didn’t quite understand it at first–I am still a bit unfamiliar with it but I definitively agree that it is all about delivering quality content… and with Twitter, the title of the content is also SUPER important to make it more shareable.

Twitter is one social media platform I haven’t yet experienced much success with. I am going to try some popular hashtags with good quality posts to see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

    • Sarah Arrow

Even now hashtags are under utilised, so thanks for the reminder and the refresher on Twitter for business.
